A new home for WISCA
Big digger. Big progress. Big dreams!
Our new WISCA home is taking shape! The septic system, water tank and drainage are now in, and this week the big digger rolled up its sleeves—forming the driveway and preparing the ground for our concrete slab.
Next up: foundations! Every step brings us closer to a new home for animal care, op shop treasures and the wonderful Waiheke community that makes it all possible.
We're building something special in Ostend
WISCA is entering an exciting new chapter. Our Op Shop and animal shelter will soon be moving to a brand-new, purpose-built home in Ostend, bringing our retail, animal welfare and community activities together under one roof.
The new building has been designed with both our animals and our community in mind. It will provide a welcoming new home for the WISCA Op Shop, improved facilities for animals in our care, and a better environment for our staff, volunteers and the many members of the Waiheke community who support our work.
For WISCA, this is much more than a new building. It represents an investment in the future of animal welfare on Waiheke — giving us a permanent base from which we can rescue and care for animals, support pet owners, provide education and continue raising the funds that make our work possible.
We can't wait to open the doors and welcome you to our new home in Ostend.
And so it begins
Following a beautiful karakia performed by Blair and Tanya Anderson from Ngāti Pāoa, work officially began on the site of our new WISCA home in Ostend.
With the blessing of the site complete, excavation got underway — the first stage of our build and the beginning of an exciting new chapter for WISCA. Initial works include preparing the site for drainage, water tanks and septic systems, laying the foundations for everything that will follow.
We've been incredibly fortunate with some wonderful weather to get us started, and it has been exciting to finally see the plans begin to take shape on the ground.
After a great deal of planning and preparation, our new home is officially underway!
