At WISCA, we are advocates of responsible pet ownership. Some of the very first things new pet owners should do is to get their animals desexed and microchipped.

Desexing your pet

Uncontrolled breeding, particularly among cats, represents a real problem on the Island. It is cruel to cause litters of kittens to be born into a life of scavenging for food and warmth, without the comfort and companionship offered by a loving home.

Stray and feral cats also represent a real threat to the Island’s native birds and wildlife. While these cats are a nuisance to local residents, they are a life-threatening hazard to native fauna and they damage the local environment.

Please, get your pets desexed as a priority.

Microchipping your pet

Microchipping is a very effective way to have your pet returned in the unhappy event that it goes missing. It is a very small price to pay to avoid the heartbreak and sense of loss that comes to the entire family when a beloved pet goes missing. The success rate of locating the owners of lost, but microchipped, pets is very high.

Please get your pet microchipped so if it unfortunately gets lost or goes missing, you can be confident that it is highly likely to be quickly returned to its family.
