Eight years strong! WISCA’s 2025 highlights
It’s been an incredible year for WISCA! On October 31st, we celebrated a special milestone, our 8th birthday.
Since the community decided in 2017 to establish us as a dedicated facility under the name Waiheke Society for the Care of Animals, we’ve grown tremendously in our mission to care for the island’s animals.
Our shop has undergone a fantastic upgrade this year, and we couldn’t be prouder of the results. We have had a significant increase in high-quality donated items, and we’re thrilled to welcome more volunteers to our shop team. To everyone who volunteers behind the scenes - thank you. Your dedication makes everything we do possible.
Our Animal Advocate has been working tirelessly throughout the community, offering advice and help where needed.
Thanks to a generous grant from Auckland Council, we’ve been able to offer free cat desexing services, helping 26 cats so far this year.
Through additional financial assistance, another eight cats were desexed. Every cat that wasn’t previously microchipped also received one during the procedure.
We have also helped with the desexing of 11 dogs. We were also grateful recipients of a Companion Animal Trust grant, enabling us to microchip and register 100 animals. Microchipping is crucial for reuniting lost pets with their families, details current on the Companion Animal Registry.
A microchip is only as good as theinformation associated with it!
Our animal shelter has celebrated 13 successful adoptions this year, with cats finding their forever homes. Many of these cats came from difficult circumstances, and we’re deeply grateful to those who opened their hearts and homes. Our dedicated animal centre volunteers work tirelessly to ensure every animal receives the care, attention, and love they deserve.
We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Hill’s Pet Nutrition for their continued support, providing quality nutrition for all our feline residents.
As Christmas approaches, we’ll be creating a festive Christmas grotto filled with decorations and gifts. Before buying new this holiday season, visit us first and give preloved treasures a new home!
Remember, every dollar spent in our shop goes directly toward helping Waiheke’s animals. To contact our Animal Advocate about how you can adopt a cat, please phone 0275395107 or email wisca@wisca.co.nz.
